The Management Status after the Health Check-up for the Elderly Persons at a Kwangju Area

Abstract
In order to investigate the management status of the results after the health check-up for the elderly persons at Kwangju area, an interview survey was done from February 2nd to February 28th, 1995. Number of subjects interviewed was 382 who completed health check-up as the elderly inhabitants in Seogu, Kwangju City at September 1994.
The results were as follows;
1. Among the study population, 106 were male(27.7%) and 276 were female(72.3%). Mean age of male was 73.4 years and mean age of female was 73.6 years.
2. The results of health check-up showed that 218 persons(57.1%) had abnormal blood pressure, 11 persons(1.2%) had abnormal liver function, 27 persons(10.8%) had elevated blood cholesterol, 55 persons(21.9%) had elevated fasting blood sugar and 68 persons(17.9%) had abnormal finding at lung or heart.
3. Among the study population, 192 persons(50.4%) answered that they received the results after¢¥ the health check-up. Ninety six persons(49.0% of 192 persons) realized that they had abnormal finding. The abnormal finding of 55 persons (57.3%) were newly detected by the health check-up and the rest were reconfirmed results for the existing condition.
4 Among the persons with abnormal finding 29 persons(302%) received retests and 28 persons(2929) got treatments for their diseases. Major sources of treatments were hospital or clinic(52.1%) and government health center (33.3%)
5. Thirty nine persons(39.8%) did not find any treatment for their abnormal findings. As the reasons for no treatment, 90.2% felt the condition was not so serious and l-2% felt treatment were bothersome.
6. Fifty one point five percent of hypertensives, 65.7% of diabetes mellitus patients, (16.7% of persons with abnormal liver function and 462% with hyperlipidemia received medical treatments or retests. 7. Associated factors with the receipt of the health check-up results were age(p<0.001), marital status(peducational level(p<0.05), type of residency(p<0.001), living together with family(p<0.001) and religion(p<0.05).
$. Associated factors with the positive action after health check-up were religion(pIn summary the results of the present health check-up for the elderly were not treated effectively. So effective follow-up system for the health check-up must be developed.
